Your2Cents
"Shotgun Parade" by Cynthia Wilson
Friday, September 20
2 p.m.
Doors open at 1:30 p.m.
Performing Arts Studio, Hillside
Free
“Shotgun Parade” is a memory play of a spontaneous LGBTQ+ rally and march that occurred in San Francisco on June 7, 1977 in response to an overwhelming defeat of a Gay Rights Ordinance in Miami, Florida. Through words, movement and sounds, actors relive those hours.
The play is directed by Edward Kimak and features DAOR members and several newcomers: John Blytt, Aki Rasmussen, Jon Rasmussen, Liz Salen, Maria Faer, Gary Mutz, Dick Bailey and Deborah Black. They are supplemented by drummers that establish the relentless pace of the march. Following the reading, Kimak will facilitate an audience discussion to assist the writer in further development of the piece.
Wilson’s history with DAOR productions includes starring in “I’ll Eat You Last”, and directing “Tiny House” and “Homecare”. She will direct the upcoming Naked Stage production of “The Clean House”, and has stage managed many other productions. She is also the author of an earlier work “Triple Play”, and has had a long career teaching drama and working with many theater groups in the Bay Area.
Presentations of Your2Cents are works in progress, not fully staged; and the actors read from scripts. For more information contact Playwrights Coordinator Edna Coulson Hall at [email protected]
