An American in Paris
Friday, July 17, 5:30 p.m. Diablo Room, Hillside Free Reservations Required by July 14 Rossmoor residents and guests are invited to a sing-along with “An American in Paris”, the 1951 musical, to be shown on the big screen in the Diablo Room at Hillside on Friday, July 17, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a bring-your-own picnic dinner. The event is sponsored by the Drama Association of Rossmoor (DAOR) and is free, but reservations are required. Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron and Nina Foch star in this Best Picture, Oscar-winning movie musical directed by Vincente Minnelli. Music and lyrics are by George and Ira Gershwin. An American ex-GI (Gene Kelly) stays in post-war Paris to become a painter. He falls for a girl (Leslie Caron) but attracts the attention of an American heiress (Nina Foch) who is interested in more than art. Songs include “I Got Rhythm”, “S’ Wonderful”, and “(Our) Love is Here to Stay.” The film’s title song is the ballet sequence at the finale. The program will feature Movie Trivia at 6:00 p.m., followed by the film at 6:15. Lyrics will appear on the screen. The film, while not rated, is considered family-friendly. Along with the bring-your-own picnic dinner, attendees should also bring their own adult beverages, plates, utensils and cups. DAOR will provide water, as well as dessert at the intermission.
